The rescue of the girls and young people, most of them Venezuelans between 12 and 17 years old, took place on January 8 in Lima and ended with the capture of 10 alleged criminals. According to police, the detainees are part of “a faction” of the Aragua Train called Los Hijos de Dios, which has been operating in Peru since 2021.
“It is scandalous how minors up to 12 years of age were captured and reduced to sexual slavery to carry out this work spread on social networks with morbid catalogues,” the head of the Order and Security police division told RPP radio . General Víctor Zanabria.
The police chief said the organization operated “in several commercial premises, such as nightclubs or hostels, and scheduled a series of sex work with the participation of migrants.”
The victims were offered in WhatsApp catalogs
The women were proposed through catalogs sent by the WhatsApp messaging platform and social networks, where photos of the minors with their ages appeared.
The Venezuelan women had emigrated to Peru under deception and with the promise of stable work in restaurants or nightclubs, but then, according to the authorities, they were forced into prostitution under threat.
On December 29, Peruvian police rescued another 60 Colombian, Venezuelan and Peruvian women in an operation that led to the capture of 22 people who were also members of the Los Hijos de Dios group.
The Tren de Aragua criminal organization was formed in 2014 in the Venezuelan state of Aragua and has spread to eight South American countries, including Colombia, Peru and Chile, according to intelligence reports.
Their activities include human trafficking, murder, kidnapping, robbery, drugs and extortion.
