The Peruvian Foreign Ministry filed a protest last Wednesday with the Colombian chargé d’affaires in Lima over the statements of an official from that country that denied Peruvian sovereignty over Santa Rosa Island, located in the middle of the Amazon.
Through an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it summoned the Colombian chargé d’affaires to to deliver a note of protest, through which “the Government of Peru reaffirmed the rights of sovereignty and jurisdiction over Santa Rosa Island”, located in the Loreto region, bordering Colombia and Brazil.
Peru protested against statements made by the director of Territorial Sovereignty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia during the First Technical Roundtable on Border Security convened last Monday by the Government of the Department of Amazonas (Colombia) in the Colombian city of Leticia.
