Peru president’s home raided in Rolex watch investigation – 2024-03-30 20:22:04

About 40 officers from the police and the prosecutor’s office raided the home of Peru’s president in an investigation into a luxury Rolex watch. Police said, the raid was carried out early on Saturday (March 30) at the home of President Dina Baluarte as part of a corruption investigation. During the operation, it was broadcast on the local television channel Latina. Baluarte kept the details of these watches secret. The French news agency AFP reported this news.

Television footage showed government agents entering the president’s residence with a sledgehammer, news agency AP reported.

Asked how he could wear such expensive watches while on government pay, the president said they were the result of hard work since the age of 18.

Reportedly, he requested the media not to pry into personal matters.

Local news outlet La Ensarrona first reported on President Baluarte’s Rolex watch. According to the report, President Baluarte wore a variety of Rolex watches to official events. After that, the authorities started investigating this issue this month.

Baluarte, 61, strongly defended himself. “I entered Government House empty-handed and I will leave empty-handed,” he said last week.

Baluarte came to power in July 2021 as Vice President and Minister of Social Inclusion. Later, he assumed the post of president in December 2022.
