This is in response to 90 companies being given warning letters by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) through the Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum).
“Perindo firmly emphasizes that it does not tolerate perpetrators of forest and land burning, so warnings alone are not enough,” said Perindo Party DPP Chairman David Sitorus when asked for his response, Friday (9/8/2024).
David assessed that forest and land burning activities are very damaging to the environment. Not to mention, there is air pollution whose impact can be felt by other countries.
“This clearly damages the environment and also causes pollution that has an impact not only domestically but also abroad, disrupting human activities and living creatures in the forest,” he said.
He also asked the government to take a firm stance regarding law enforcement against rogue companies.
The firm action in question, said David, includes temporarily freezing permits in addition to implementing criminal and civil sanctions.
“Administrative sanctions in the form of freezing and revoking permits must be given in addition to criminal and civil sanctions that are processed further,” he said.
