Per capita GDP / The North Aegean ranks second in the EU behind only the Bulgarian region

Most Greek regions are close to or below half of the EU average, with the North Aegean at the bottom of the list with just 41% of the EU average per capita income.

Worse are the figures for only 30% in Mayotte, an island north of Madagascar which, like French Guiana (40%) which is located in South America and specifically between Brazil and Guyana, is a remnant of the colonial period. Severozapaden region in Bulgaria is also at 40%.

It is noted that in 2022 in the EU real GDP increased in 231 out of 242 regions while decreases occurred in only 11 regions.
