The fact that PepsiCo plans to invest in the construction of a new plant in the Almaty region became known during a meeting between Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and President of PepsiCo in the region of Central Asia, Russia, Belarus and the Caucasus, David Manzini, Liter.kz reports.
How reports press service of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the project, which includes the production of such well-known products as Lays potato chips, will be the largest in the region and provides for the creation of 350 skilled jobs.
The plant, scheduled to open in 2026, will use advanced technology to minimize environmental impact, including 100 percent waste recycling. The company intends to purchase local raw materials, including up to 66 thousand tons of potatoes annually, starting in 2026. Its capacity will be up to 16 thousand tons of finished products per year, with a subsequent increase to 21 thousand tons, starting in 2027.
Finished products will be supplied to the markets of Central Asia and beyond. During the construction phase, up to a thousand people will be involved; the project itself plans to create about 350 qualified jobs.
The construction of the plant is included in the pool of priority investment projects that are under the special control of the government – a total of 704 projects worth 32 trillion tenge with the creation of 122.5 thousand jobs.
The project highlights the importance of Kazakhstan’s long-term cooperation with important investment partners such as PepsiCo, and adapts to the country’s strategic goals to diversify the economy and develop the food industry.
