Pep Clarós names 12 Angolans for Pre-Olympic Tournament

News from Angola – The national senior men’s basketball coach, Pep Clarós, has already defined the 12 players for the pre-Olympic tournament, qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Games, in France.

The competition starts this Tuesday, in four different host cities, namely, Valencia (Spain), Riga (Latvia), Piraeus (Greece) and San Juan (Puerto Rico), in search of a place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

If the twelve basketball players chosen by Spaniard Pep Clarós for the pre-Olympic tournament qualify for the Paris 2024 Games, it will be the first time for the new Angolan generation in a championship of this kind.

For this endeavor, Aginaldo Neto, a point guard who was part of the initial list of 24 pre-selected players, is the standout, having been among the final twelve for the competition in Spain.

Angola is in group A, with Spain, its opening opponent on Wednesday (3), and will face Lebanon on Thursday (4).

Angola participated in seven editions of the Olympic Games (Moscow 1980), (Seoul 1988), (Barcelona 1992), (Atlanta 1996), (Sydney 2000), (Athens 2004), (Beijing 2008).

He last competed in the Olympic Games in the 2008 edition in the Chinese city of Beijing, finishing in 12th place.

In addition to missing the Paris’2014 edition, he was also absent from London’2012, Rio’2016 and Tokyo’2020.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, in France.
