WASHINGTON (apro) .- The War Department announced that by order of President Donald Trump, the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford was sent to the waters of the Western Hemisphere, supervised by the Southern Command, as a containment force against narcoterrorism.
“In support of the president’s directive to dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations and contain narcoterrorism in defense of national security, the Secretary of War (Pete Hegseth) ordered the aircraft carrier and air attack group, Gerald R. Ford, to proceed to the Southern Command area of responsibility,” the Pentagon reported.
The deployment of the United States military force to the south of the Western Hemisphere is part of the militarized war that Trump has declared against narcoterrorism, but especially that which he claims comes from Colombia and Venezuela.
From September 2 to date, the Southern Command has destroyed 10 vessels and executed 41 people who were on them, arguing without evidence that they were transporting narcotics destined for the United States, from narcoterrorist groups in Colombia and Venezuela.
The Pentagon’s military tactics are classified as a force of psychological and tactical pressure from the US government on that of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, mainly, but also against the Colombian government of Gustavo Petro.
Maduro, and without evidence, the Trump government has identified as the leader of the Cartel de los Soles and Tren de Aragua, groups classified by Washington as international terrorism groups.
In the case of Petro, President Trump has called him a leader of drug trafficking and a massive producer of drugs, this derived from the fact that the Colombian president will accuse him of having ordered the destruction of one of the 10 vessels that the Pentagon has eliminated, which belonged to fishermen and not drug traffickers.
“The strengthening of the presence of United States forces in the area of responsibility of the Southern Command (waters of the Caribbean and South Pacific) strengthens the ability to detect, monitor and destroy illicit acts and activities that compromise the security and prosperity of the United States in the Western Hemisphere. These forces improve and increase the existing capabilities of containing narcotics trafficking and dismantling Transnational Criminal Organizations,” the Pentagon concluded in the notification of the shipment of the aircraft carrier.
This week, Trump made it clear that the War Department in “international waters” of the Caribbean and the Pacific will “kill” narcoterrorists who try to transport drugs to the United States.
In parallel, Trump confirmed that he authorized the CIA to carry out covert operations inside Venezuela, and left open the possibility that the Pentagon also attacks narcoterrorists on the ground without making a declaration of war or consulting his country’s federal Congress.
The movements of the Pentagon’s tactical and special forces near the maritime, air and land territory of Venezuela are considered indications of Trump’s intentions to want a regime change in that South American nation.
The United States government, after assigning Maduro the title of leader of narcoterrorism groups in Venezuela, offers 50 million dollars in reward for information that leads to his arrest and judicial process.
