NATO member countries have provided military aid to Ukraine for approximately $65 billion in total since the start of the Russian military operation, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin revealed this Thursday during a meeting of the Group. Ukrainian Defense Contact Center (UDCG).
“In total, the Contact Group has committed nearly $65 billion in security aid,” Austin said, adding that kyiv’s supporters remain “as united as ever.”
Furthermore, the senior official reported that, since the UDCG meeting last month, “U.S. has provided an additional $1.8 billion in security aid to Ukraine.”
«Last week, the president [Joe] “Biden announced that the US will support a joint effort with our allies and partners to train Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation aircraft, including the F-16,” he recalled. Austin also indicated that he hopes “this training will begin in the coming weeks.”
Moscow has repeatedly warned that supplying weapons to Ukraine only prolongs the conflict. Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, stated last week that although Western countries insist that they are not part of the Ukrainian conflict and only help Kiev to “defend itself”, they are actually not interested in putting end hostilities and only demonstrate their willingness to escalate.
