Peña highlights the Sumar Plan to keep young people away from addictions and bring them closer to education

ASSUMPTION- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, highlighted the effort that institutions are making through the Sumar Plan, with the aim of giving young people an opportunity to stay away from addictions and closer to schools, thus contributing to their future. .

During his participation in the commemorative event for the World Day to Fight Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Peña mentioned that the lack of opportunities is one of the main factors that lead young people towards addictions and, consequently, the world. of crime.

“We must provide them with alternatives, and that depends on the previous work we do. From the Ministry of Health, we have to provide them with all the appropriate support and treatment to quickly reintegrate them, so that they can have a better future through work and study,” the president emphasized.

In this context, he acknowledged that the lack of infrastructure for the treatment of people with addictions remains a pending issue, highlighting the need to redouble efforts to reduce this deficit.

“It is also essential to instill good habits from childhood, many of them through education, explaining to them that this is a huge danger and that we must fight together,” said Peña.

The president stressed the importance of not stigmatizing people with addiction problems, stating that they are part of society and should be integrated: “Under no circumstances should we stigmatize them; they are part of our society and we should include them all.”
