News from Angola – Angolan author Paulo Figueira will launch, this Friday, the 8th, his first literary work entitled “Monks of Salem and the Outlawed Politician”, in an event that will take place at the Iron Palace in Luanda.
The work, which has 153 pages, is divided into 20 chapters and is published under the seal of the publisher Caneta de Estilo.
The book, prefaced by Angolan writer Isabel Ferreira, is an achievement of the author, developed over ten years.
Speaking to Notícias de Angola, Paulo Figueira highlighted that the work portrays a love story lived a few years on the border between the malanjino and popular neighborhoods in the country’s capital, where he spent his childhood.
The author also explained that his works are linked to dramaturgy and, according to him, the world of theater provides its own dynamic.
According to the “debutant in the world of literature”, this work will be presented in Portugal, the Netherlands and the United States of America (USA).
Born in Malanje, Paulo Figueira has a degree in Computer Engineering from the Independent University of Angola, a Master’s degree in Business Intelligence & Analytics from Saint Joseph’s University, in Philadelphia, USA.
He dedicates himself to the arts, bringing with him an extensive history, with particular emphasis on Theatre.
In addition to directing and acting in several plays, Paulo Figueira worked at the International Theater Association affiliated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
He is a founding member of the Angola University Theater Association (ATUA) and director of the Angola University Theater Festival (FETU), for almost 10 years.
Founder, director and actor of the group Atu Wa Ube Teatro, in 2001, and of the theater group Universitário Uniartes, in 2004.
As an actor, he worked on television, in short appearances in Angolan soap operas and in several advertising campaigns, but his biggest commitment was to theater, working as a teacher for teenagers. He currently resides in the state of Philadelphia, USA.
