Paula Pareto: the first Argentine woman in the International Olympic Committee

The Argentine Olympic medalist Paula “Peque” Paretoa 37-year-old judoka, is known for many achievements. In 2008 she won her first bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics and in 2016 she won gold in Rio de Janeiro.

Pareto doesn’t have a day that isn’t productive: she is an orthopedic doctor, currently part of the medical delegation at the Olympic Games, and coach of the national judo team. One week, “La Peque” added to her list of achievements being selected to be part of the International Olympic Committee. There were also other Argentines with important positions in the team, such as Gerardo Wertheinwho was named in the same press release as Vice President of the committee. But Paula will go down in history as the first Argentine woman to be a member of the IOC.

The election was the result of an overwhelming vote and represents a recognition of his outstanding sporting career and his commitment to charitable values.

Pareto explained in her post that this appointment represents a dream come true for her and an extension of her passion for the Olympic movement. “I am officially part of the Olympic movement that I admire so much and that I take as a reference for the lifestyle to follow. Because we know the Olympic values ​​through sport, but they serve us for life during and after the competition,” she explained. The former judoka also underlined her commitment to this new role: “Because I always felt part of it, but today I can act and contribute with more strength, being in direct contact with the needs that exist and working as a team with experts in the subject. It is a new challenge that I love to take on and where I promise to give my best,” she added.
