Patrício Batsîkama launches book on “Origins of the Kingdom of Kôngo”

Patrício Batsîkama, an Angolan historian, launched the book entitled “Origins of the Kingdom of Kôngo” on Wednesday night at the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), in Luanda.

The work that concludes the trilogy on the “Origins of the Kingdom of Kongo”, which the historian began in 2010, to disseminate, guide research on the location of archives, reports from missionaries and the oral tradition of Kongo.

The historian made it known during the launch ceremony that the Bankongo community, since the 17th century, has been writing its history, hence there is data that confirms the impotence and power of the Kongo kingdom.

In this way, Batsîkama, also a University professor, spoke of the need for field research to better understand the history of the country and the Kingdom of Kongo.

“The Angolan state must invest heavily in culture, which will facilitate access to research” he advised.

The work was published by the publisher Edutoco and had a circulation of a thousand copies.

Born in the province of Uíge, Patrício Batsîkama is the author of works on the history of Angola and Africa, with emphasis on “The Kingdom of Kongo and its Southern Origin”, “Makela ma Zombo”, and “Introduction to the History of Arts in Africa ”.

He is a professor at the Instituto Superior Politécnico Tocísta (ISPT), where he is also coordinator of the Center for Studies and Applied Scientific Research (CEICA).
