“Armenia still remains a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), but these mechanisms are not working, and this does not suit Yerevan.
Publika.az Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this in an interview with “Al-Jazeera” TV.
According to him, CSTO as a military-political union should protect the borders of the member states, but this is not happening. Accordingly, questions arise in Armenian society and Armenia does not want to be part of a dysfunctional mechanism.
“We are still a member of the CSTO, but we have to work so that all the established mechanisms work, and this is necessary.”
In that interview, the diplomat noted that there are certain issues in relations with Russia separately, including those that require full understanding, but the countries are conducting a dialogue to resolve them.
A month ago, Mirzoyan noted that Armenia still does not intend to join NATO, although the country cooperates with the alliance and participates in its operations. Later, the prime minister of the republic, Nikol Pashinyan, admitted that he did not understand why he needed to become a member of the CSTO.
