The Parliament of Georgia canceled the veto of the President of the Republic Salome Zurabishvili on the law on foreign agents in the plenary session.
Publika.az “Tbilisi life” “Telegram” channel reported on this.
It was noted that 84 out of 150 deputies voted in favor of the initiative. A simple majority of 76 deputies would be enough to override the head of state’s veto.
“After the vote, parliamentarians began to congratulate and hug each other,” the report said.
It should be noted that the Georgian deputies adopted the law “On Foreign Agents” on May 14. 84 people voted for it. The review of the document took place against the background of numerous objections. At the same time, the country’s president refused to sign the law and used his veto right.
As a result, on May 27, the parliament of the republic started the procedure to cancel Zurabishvili’s veto. Then a meeting of the legal committee of the legislative body was held, the participants of the meeting approved the continuation of this procedure.
The next day, the deputies gathered for a plenary session, the purpose of which was the final adoption of the law on foreign agents. After the event started, people started coming to the legislative building to oppose this initiative. Later, police cars and buses with special forces began to gather here.
