The fire broke out on Monday morning around 9.40 am in Henri Zwaenepoelstraat in Bredene. A plume of black smoke could be seen from a distance and emergency services rushed to the scene en masse. When the fire brigade arrived, the residents, parents and their 12-year-old child, were still in the home. “The residents were removed from the home by the emergency services,” says Dennis Goes of the Bredene/De Haan police zone. It is not clear how serious the victims are.
Traffic disruption
The house has been declared uninhabitable. The residents of the adjacent homes were evacuated as a preventive measure, but were quickly allowed to return to their homes.
The street was closed to all traffic for a while.
