Pankaj Udas passed away – 2024-02-28 08:26:19

Famous ghazal singer Pankaj Udas is no more. He was 72 years old at the time of his death. He was ill for a long time. His daughter Nayab Udas confirmed the death.

He said, ‘It is with deep sorrow that I inform you that Padma Shri artist Pankaj Udas has passed away on February 26.’

Pankaj kept the 80s enthralled with songs from shows, albums and movies. ‘Chandi Jayasa Rang’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’, ‘Deewaron Se Mil Kar Rona’, ‘Ahista’, ‘Thodi Thodi Pyar Karo’, Niklo Na Benkab’ – all the ghazals sung by Pankaj Udas are still the heart of the listeners. He also has several famous albums like ‘Nasha’, ‘Paymana’, ‘Hasrat’, ‘Humsafar’ under his belt.

Pankaj Udas was born on May 17, 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat. Pankaj was the youngest of the three children of Keshubhai Udas and Jituben Udas. His musical talent comes from his family. Seeing the children’s enthusiasm for music, Keshubhai admitted them to the music academy in Rajkot. Initially trained in tabla, later took classical music lessons from Ghulam Qadir Khan. Later, Pankaj moved to Mumbai to study under Nabarang Nagpurkar, a popular artist of the Gwalior genre. He made his debut in film music with the 1989 film ‘Hum Tum Aur Oh’.
