Panic in Austria: Jehovah’s Witnesses found a bomb in their building, it could explode

A suspicious package was found in the building of the Jehovah’s Witnesses religious society in the Austrian village of Kalsdorf near Graz on Friday evening. The police subsequently discovered that it was a working explosive device. The APA agency informed about it today. According to a police spokesman, the device was capable of causing major damage.

The package was discovered by members of this religious community during a service attended by about 50 people. They informed the police, who subsequently closed off the area and called in pyrotechnics. They secured the package and transported it to another location for examination.

A police spokesman said in the morning that someone had apparently deliberately placed the package in the premises used by Jehovah’s Witnesses. “It was an unusual explosive device that was homemade but essentially functional,” he said later. According to him, a connection with two explosive devices found last year in the premises of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Leibnitz, Austria, cannot be ruled out.

The police are still investigating the case and have taken measures to ensure the protection of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She also invited the public for increased attention and immediate reporting of suspicious events or objects.
