Two mountain climbers who climbed Mount Ağrı with a group, unfurled a Palestinian flag at the summit and condemned the attacks in Gaza. Mehmet Rahim İnanç, a health worker in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, said, “We want the massacre to stop by shouting from the roof of Turkey.”
Climbing Mount Ararat, which is described as the roof of Turkey with its height of 5,176 meters above sea level, with a group of mountaineers, Mehmet Rahim İnanç (37) and Ömer Faruk Kertiş (25) started their climb from an altitude of 2,200 meters and took 4 days. The climbers stayed at the base camp at an altitude of 3,200 meters on the first day. Climbing to 4,028 meters on the second day, the mountaineers reached the summit the next day after a 6-hour climb. Inanç and Kertiş, who raised a Palestinian flag at the summit, reacted to the massacre in Gaza.
Mehmet Rahim İnanç and Ömer Faruk Kertiş, who are members of the mountaineering group and are healthcare personnel at the Dr. Yaşar Eryılmaz Doğubayazıt State Hospital in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, raised the Palestinian flag at the summit. Stating that everyone should do their best to end the oppression in Palestine, İnanç said, “Today, we may not be able to do much to end the oppression, but we will not sit still. If we cannot prevent this oppression, we are trying to do our best to make it known to people. This is the reason why we did not raise the Palestinian flag at the summit.”
Ömer Faruk Kertiş, who climbed Mount Ararat with his friend, said the following:
“Unfortunately, today the world is watching a persecution. We have a great responsibility to stop the persecution and to break up the Zionist coalition. We must make every effort to ensure that the boycott continues and that the persecution is not forgotten. Although the flag we raised on the summit of Mount Ararat today is symbolic, we believe it is important in terms of awareness.”
The climbers then moved on to the descent route.
