A strong rejection was met with statements issued by Nader Al-Qaisi, the representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Algeria, who used his media appearance on “Radio Algeria International” a few days ago to accuse Morocco of “betraying the Palestinian cause,” especially after consolidating its relations with Tel Aviv.
One of the things that was condemned by Moroccan Jews in Israel in particular was that the Palestinian side accused them of “Zionism” when it said: “We do not forget that more than a million Zionists present in our lands and colonizing them are of Moroccan origins and hold dual nationalities.”
The Moroccan Israelis who spoke to Hespress refuted all of what was said by Nader Al-Qaisi, pointing out that they are “tolerant and defenders of peace and are not satisfied with the situation in the region,” and that they “have no problem” with the Palestinians, “but with the Hamas organization in particular,” adding Defending Morocco’s strategic interests is at the core of their competencies as long as they are the Kingdom’s ambassadors in Tel Aviv.
Salomon Al-Asri, President of the World Union of Jews of Marrakesh, stated that “Palestinian politicians must be aware that Moroccans in Israel are the ones who provide their children with work contracts, high wages, and preferential treatment, and these are all data that must be brought to mind by anyone who dares to attack Morocco and its community in Israel.”
Al-Asri explained, in a statement to Hespress, that “the Moroccanity of the Sahara is indisputable, and we as Jews in Israel support it and support any positive step taken by Tel Aviv regarding it, while the Palestinian leaders do not present any positive positions and always live in a gray zone regarding this pivotal issue for the Kingdom.” .
The spokesman stated that “accusations of extremism and Zionism are nothing but passing talk that we have become accustomed to from those who make them, while our defense of the cause of our mother country, Morocco, remains at the core of our work and our duty towards it,” continuing: “It is our duty to confront any provocation that affects the Moroccan Sahara, as it Our ties to the Kingdom are countless.”
Al-Asri stated, “Israeli Moroccans remain ambassadors for the Kingdom and encourage peace and the rejection of war, and none of them seeks extremism. If they were like that, they would not have lived for centuries in Morocco and developed a good reputation for it.” The Kingdom bears witness to their love for peace,” he concluded, concluding that the statements of the Palestinian side are “wrong and contrary to reality.”
For his part, Jacky Kadosh, head of the Jewish community in Marrakesh-Safi, said, “The Palestinian side must be familiar with the origins of speech, and be aware that the word Zionism refers to the origin of the Israeli people, i.e. Sion, before expressing any anti-Moroccan position on Israel.”
Kadosh stated, in a statement to Hespress, that “the problem of Moroccan Jews residing in Israel is not with the Palestinians, but rather with the Hamas machine, which does not take into account the interests of the Palestinians either because it does not help peace in the region, but what is happening today hurts everyone.”
The head of the Jewish community in Marrakesh-Safi stated that “talking about the Moroccans of Israel not being peace-loving is a fallacy against them, because they want peace in the region and nothing else, but on the other hand they reject terrorism and blood as well,” continuing: “If we were not peaceful, we would not have lived for centuries.” In our country, Morocco, and our coexistence with Muslims who realized that we are peaceful and do not accept anything else.”
Regarding the Moroccan Sahara, Kadosh said, “Moroccan Jews cling to supporting Moroccan sovereignty and supporting Israel’s positive position on it as well, as our connection with the Moroccan royal family is still good, as Mohammed V and Hassan II loved us, and today Mohammed VI is following their path,” concluding that “ Our settling in Israel does not mean abandoning our original homeland, as we support its decisions and strategic issues.”
