Pakistan rejects US directive to probe election rigging – 2024-03-02 13:38:10

Pakistan will not submit to the orders of foreign countries. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has rejected US advice to investigate election rigging. On Saturday (February 2), Pakistani media Dawn reported the news.

At the weekly press briefing on Friday, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch made it clear that Pakistan is an independent and sovereign country. No other country can dictate that to Pakistan.

Zahra also said that Pakistan believes in its own sovereign right to decide on Pakistan’s internal affairs due to US comments on February 8 elections.

Earlier this week, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said any claims of election interference or fraud should be investigated impartially and transparently in accordance with Pakistan’s own laws and procedures.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been accused of election rigging due to the late release of results. PTI-backed candidates, in particular, have strongly stood up for this charge.

However, rejecting these allegations, the ECP urged the political parties to redress these allegations through courts and due legal process.

Meanwhile, about 35 members of Congress, led by Gregorio Cassar of the US Democratic Party, wrote to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, requesting them not to recognize the new government of Pakistan.

Although Zahra did not comment on this letter. However, he said, this letter is an internal matter of the United States. Zahra also mentioned that it has nothing to do with them.
