ÖVP blocks straw for pigs – Animal protection blocks ÖVP: the last deadline in this legislative period for a ban is about to expire!
Vienna (OTS) – The situation is critical when it comes to banning fully slatted floors. The future of pig farming must now be decided. Not only are pig farmers kept in the dark, the quality of life of the pigs is also at stake. That is why animal welfare is taking to the barricades on behalf of the pigs. This morning, the ÖVP headquarters in Innsbruck was occupied. The animal rights activists wearing pig masks want to speak to Agriculture Minister Totschnig as a “delegation of pigs”. He is from Tyrol, is currently in Tyrol and is on the board of the ÖVP Tyrol.
One occupier commented: “Totschnig is celebrating his 50th birthday tomorrow. The right time to show a heart for pigs. We came here peacefully to speak to him on behalf of the pigs. Totschnig is responsible to us citizens, it is his duty to listen to the pigs’ side of things too. The People’s Party should be there for the people.”
The animal rights activists have chained themselves up and locked themselves in a room at the ÖVP headquarters. They are speaking out of the window using a megaphone. “We are not leaving until Totschnig has spoken to us!” The police have cordoned off the street.
The VGT will continuously report on the events.
