The global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) is estimated to increase by more than 50% by 2040, as China and more generally South Asia and Southeast Asian countries use more liquefied natural gas to support their economic growth. According to a Shell report, global trade in liquefied natural gas will reach 404 million tons in 2023, up from 397 million tons in 2022.
