Outreasury threat: drivers press and transport opens space to dialogue

ASSUMPTION- A new threat of driver strike again tightens the environment in the public transport sector. The measure is scheduled for Thursday and Friday of next week, although so far the unions did not officially communicate the call to the competent authorities, a necessary requirement for their legality.

The Deputy Minister of Transportation, Emiliano R. Fernández, said that there is still room to avoid the measure of force and recalled that the Chamber of Deputies – as a review chamber – has pending the treatment of the bill of the public transport reform, recently approved in the Senate.

“There is the review chamber, that of deputies, we told the workers that we are going to motivate the treatment there. There is time to discuss and hopefully we reach an agreement,” said Fernández.

The union sector insists that the Senate did not include two of its main claims: the elimination of the declaration of transport as an essential service and the guarantee of work continuity for the drivers. These points were pending study in the lower house, which keeps the possibility of negotiation open.

It should be remembered that a strike had already been scheduled for September 3 and 4, but was raised after the postponement of the legislative debate. However, the project was finally approved the following week in the Senate, without contemplating the central points required by the workers.

If the strike is completed, the Government announced that it will deploy own buses and trucks to cover itineraries and minimize the impact on public transport users.
