OTA Employees Association: Does not agree with the private guarding of the construction site

The Municipal Authority is being sued by the OTA Employees Association of the Prefecture of Ioannina for the privatization of the guarding service of the construction site of the Municipality of Ioannina where thefts were recently detected and legal proceedings were initiated by the municipal authority.

The Workers’ Association talks about a real event of “loss” of objects from the construction site, and accuses the municipal authority that instead of proceeding with the supply of equipment and the further staffing of the security service, it plans to entrust the security to a private company. In fact, according to the announcement, the private security company “got a hold” before even signing a contract, since the employees of the private company have been visiting the construction site for a few days now and planning the security plan for the site. No tender has been issued, nor can it be issued as long as there is no 2024 budget, and of course no contract has been signed. “Not only privatization, that is, but also a rigged competition” comments the announcement.

And he concludes: “Our Association followed very carefully the decision to file a lawsuit against unknown persons for the loss of objects from the construction site, considering that it is the responsibility and competence of the municipal authority to do so. However, we are not going to allow neither the Municipal Authority of Ioannina nor anyone to slander municipal employees in general and vaguely in order to legitimize the privatization of services. We demand that every attempt at privatization be stopped and that measures be taken to safeguard the construction site”.
