The film ‘Oppenheimer’, by British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, fulfilled the predictions this Tuesday and will lead the race towards the 96th edition of the Oscars with 13 nominations, followed by ‘Poor Things’, by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, with 11 nominations.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, Martin Scorsese’s return to Hollywood, won 10 mentions.
For its part, the commercial phenomenon ‘Barbie’, by Greta Gerwig, had to settle for eight nominations after an awards season in which it has been faltering in recognition in the most important sections.
The four films will compete in the queen category of the Oscars, that of best film, against ‘American Fiction’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘The Holdovers’, ‘Maestro’, ‘Past Lives’ and ‘The Zone of Interest’ .
This year’s gala, which will take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, will also decide who is the best director of the course, a section from which Greta Gerwig (‘Barbie’) and Alexander Payne ( ‘The Holdovers’).
The fight to be the best movie
The films ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Poor Things’ and ‘Barbie’ were selected this Tuesday in the best film category.
These films will compete with seven other titles in this section: ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, ‘American Fiction’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Maestro’, ‘Past Lives’, ‘The Holdovers’ and ‘The zone of interest’.
The popular Mattel doll film will face each other again with ‘Oppenheimer’, which tells the story of the physicist and ‘father’ of the atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer.
The candidacy of ‘Poor Things’, the science fiction film by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, also appeared in all the pools thanks to its story about a woman who, in the style of Frankenstein, was resurrected after having her fetus’s brain transplanted.
‘Maestro’, the second film directed by Bradley Cooper, and the returns of Martin Scorsese with ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and Alexander Payne with ‘The Holdovers’ also surpassed the Hollywood Academy’s cut for best film.
The revelations of the year in the queen category of the Oscars were ‘The Zone of Interest’, directed by Jonathan Glazar in a portrait of the trivialization of evil during the Nazi regime, and ‘Anatomy of a fall’, by French director Justine Triet .
Nolan will seek his first Oscar
Filmmakers Christopher Nolan (‘Oppenheimer’), Yorgos Lanthimos (‘Poor Things’) and Martin Scorsese (‘Killers of the Flower Moon’) will compete for the Oscar in the best director category, the Hollywood Academy announced this Tuesday.
Surprisingly, the works of Alexander Payne with ‘The Holdovers’ or Greta Gerwig for ‘Barbie’ were not considered.

Nolan, recent winner of the Golden Globe, does not have any Oscar in his record but had been nominated up to five times by the US Academy previously. One of them, as best director in 2018 thanks to ‘Dunkirk’, which would also earn him the nomination for best film.
Until today, Scorsese had 14 nominations for a dozen films, but only one win, which came as best director for ‘The Departed’ in 2007.
Great roles shine in the acting categories
Actresses Lily Gladstone for ‘The Moon Killers’, Carey Mulligan for ‘Master’, Emma Stone for ‘Poor Creatures’, Annette Bening for ‘Nyad’ and Sandra Hüller for ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ were nominated for an Oscar this Tuesday for the best actress.
The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were read this morning in Los Angeles by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid, who gave the final list of candidates for the 23 categories.

This is the first nomination for the Academy Awards, which will be presented on March 10, for the American Lily Gladstone, an actress originally from the Blackfoot and Nez Percé native indigenous tribes.
She is one of the favorites, after having won the Golden Globe for best drama actress, and with this nomination she has become the first indigenous woman to receive a nomination for the most prestigious Hollywood film awards.
For their part, the performers Bradley Cooper, for ‘Maestro’; Paul Giamatti, for ‘The Holdovers’; Cillian Murphy, for ‘Oppenheimer’; Colman Domingo, for ‘Rustin’, and Jeffrey Wright, for ‘American Fiction’, were nominated this Tuesday for the Oscar for best actor by the Hollywood Academy.
‘The Snow Society’ in best international film
The Spanish film ‘The Snow Society’ by Juan Antonio Bayona, which narrates the struggle of the survivors of the Andes air tragedy, was nominated this Tuesday for the Oscar award for best international film by the Hollywood Academy and the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hair Design.
This is the first nomination for Bayona (Barcelona, 1975), who will have to compete against the Italian ‘Io Capitano’ (‘I Captain’), the British ‘The Zone of Interest’ (‘The Zone of Interest’), the Japanese ‘Perfect days’ and the German ‘The lounge teachers’. With EFE
