Oscar D’León spoke about his supposed unrecognized son and announced his return to Cali

The history of salsa is full of important names, but without a doubt one of the most important is that of Oscar D’León, who completed fifty years of artistic career in 2022, which has been marked by hits such as ‘Llorarás’, ‘Go your way’, ‘Details’ and many others.

In fact, in an interview that ‘El sonero del mundo’ gave to Infobae Colombia, he recalled that on March 15, 1972, he began his musical career, but for a long time before that he had been snooping around in this profession, even since he was driving a taxi in his native Venezuela.

“The time that I remember most fondly were the first years, when doors began to open to me around the world, as I was visiting Europe, Asia and African countries such as Morocco, New Guinea and Tunisia. Likewise, it was very nice to arrive at Madison Square Garden, the Manhattan Center and, of course, Cali,” he expressed in his talk with Infobae Colombia.

And although the greatness of the musician, for many critics, can be measured through the awards and prizes he receives, Oscar D’León assures that, even though he has been worthy of a Latin Grammy and a Congo de Oro, the applause of the public is the greatest recognition he could have received.

“The applause is genuine, it is something spontaneous and it puts you where every human being would like to be, that is the most beautiful award an artist can have,” he added.

Furthermore, ‘El diablo de la salsa’ stated that he has never thought about retiring from music, because after the health problems he faced due to covid-19, he has dedicated himself to taking care of his health to be able to continue enjoying this profession and giving a show to his followers.

“Although I don’t think about death, since I am so happy and talkative, I would like people to remember me as a happy man. However, I hope to be able to have another 60 years to continue enjoying this world (…) Being alive fills me with joy and I do things that fill me with good energy, for example, I sing even in the bathroom and most of the time I am working , but I also watch a lot of music videos, movies and baseball,” said the 79-year-old man in his talk with Infobae Colombia.

Finally, Oscar D’León was encouraged to speak with this medium about a topic that has generated controversy for years and that, in recent weeks, was once again in the folder of some media outlets: his supposed unrecognized son.

It is key to remember that there is a singer, who calls himself Jimmy D’León, who claims to be the blood of the ‘Dancing Bass’. However, in an interview he gave a few days ago to the Peruvian program ‘Salserísimo’, he reiterated that he was never recognized as the singer’s son nor does he have contact with him because he has been “denied.”

“It’s a little complicated to get to him, we haven’t talked for a while (…) it’s impossible to get to him. One has that resentment, my father is a figure known worldwide, his charisma and his total dedication. But he has a self-conscious pace through handling it. My father is now 79 years old, the conditions are not the same, they are already looking for ways to keep him calm. “We want God to give him life and health,” said the supposed son of the sonero, for whom he composed a song called ‘From son to father’, through tears.

Regarding these statements, Oscar D’León denied that this version is true, as he notes that he was responsible for all his children and Jimmy was not fathered by him.

“I can tell you that he was not recognized because his real father had already done so, I did not have the chance. And if they start saying that I didn’t want to do it, they are exaggerating and causing a big exacerbation. It’s very unpleasant! I don’t pay attention to that because I respected all my children, I gave them an education and position within my profession, although they didn’t know how to take advantage of it, so I withdraw a little and live my life without thinking about any of that,” he added.

His return to Cali

Next November 26, in Central Park on 66th Street, Oscar D’León will be performing in a great event that will also bring together ‘Los Hermanos Lebron’ and ‘Los Latin Brothers’.

This presentation, whose ticket can be purchased through Taqui (315-844-4888 | 322-665-6882), has the maestro excited, since he has always felt very at home in ‘the capital of salsa’ and he hopes that On this occasion there is no difference.

“Going to Cali is something great and means returning to a country that catapults you, because that is Colombia, there they know a lot about music and genres like vallenato, salsa, cumbia and even tango. I have my entire repertoire prepared and ready to answer this call and get the entire audience dancing salsa,” he concluded. With Infobae
