The leader of the Hamas movement, Osama Hamdan, said in an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia that Hamas has not received “the proposal for the exit of Hamas leaders from Gaza, and no country has expressed it”, stressing that It’s out of the question.
Hamdan said in an interview with Sky News Arabia: “Israel believes that by targeting civilians it can impose its conditions.”
Hamdan underlined that in the meeting between the head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and the Turkish Foreign Minister, the Palestinian scene and Palestinian objectives were discussed, and here Turkey can play a special role, given the its relations internationally, especially with the United States.
Hamdan noted: “There is great understanding on the part of Turkey of Hamas’s position, and we hope that this will produce an effort to stop the aggression.”
We are committed to the survival of Gaza and the West Bank as a political unit
Hamdan stressed that they are “committed to the survival of Gaza and the West Bank as a political unit in the face of Israel, and we have a specific proposal regarding a unified transitional government that will take place after the period of elections and reconstruction.”
He stressed that it is the Palestinians who choose who will govern them and that their choice must be respected, whether it is Hamas or others.
Hamdan said: “There is no serious proposal regarding the Palestinian Authority’s management of the Gaza Strip after the war, and differences between Washington and Tel Aviv remain subject to will.”
Regarding the negotiations dossier, Hamdan said:
- Hamas demands a complete and comprehensive ceasefire and the departure of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and will not accept a temporary ceasefire being negotiated.
- There must be guarantees for any agreement, and the guarantees must be international and regional, and there must be a role for international parties in this agreement.
- There are ideas and initiatives brought forward through the mediators regarding the deal, but so far it is not possible to talk about a final idea.
- We are still at the beginning of the discussion and it is not yet possible to talk about points of convergence or divergence.
- Israel is deliberately leaking inaccurate information to calm the Israeli streets and buy time, but is not serious about reaching an agreement.
Hamdan stressed that the “conclusion” so far is that, despite our seriousness and despite the enormous efforts of the mediators, the Israeli side is still evasive and does not want to reach an agreement.
He pointed out that every time what we think is coming happens, the mediators come back with a negative response from Netanyahu, and the mediators have convinced themselves that Benjamin Netanyahu is not serious and that he is lying and betting on something that no one knows.
