A few days ago the Minister of Education of Turkey stated that “he would like to see the Theological School of Halki functioning”. This has raised hopes that an issue that has been simmering since January 1971 when the Turkish constitutional court ruled to ban the Theological School could be resolved. Of course, we have heard such statements many times in the past, so we have every reason to be cautious.
