Orid publishes the book “The Temptation of Populism”

“Dar Noufel”, the imprint of the publisher “Hachette Antoine”, announced the publication of a book entitled “The Temptation of Populism in the Arab World, the New Voluntary Slavery”, by the Moroccan writer and politician Hassan Aourid, in cooperation with the Arab Cultural Center.

Data about the publication indicated that “this book, which is 352 pages long, is considered an important document for the Arab reader, wherever he is, due to the political, theoretical, historical and current information it provides about the Arabs, their past, their fates, and what is looming in the future of their existence and the dynamics of their presence on the international scene.”

The same data stated that “the Arab world has exhausted the unifying narratives, from Arab nationalism to political Islam, and then euphoria during the ‘Arab Spring’; but it has suffered failure in the course of each wave, so that it finds no alternative to the migration of setbacks except the mirage of populism. Is the cure for the core of the disease: escaping from the embers of political distortion, economic stagnation, and cultural setback, to the migration of populism? There is no alternative looming on the horizon of the Arab world except authoritarianism disguised as populism, or to put it less savagely, to voluntary enslavement, to which the masses themselves lead their own deaths.”

It is noteworthy that Hassan Aourid is a Moroccan writer and novelist who won the Pushkin Prize for Literature in 2015 for his literary works, including “Ruwa’ Mecca”, “Ribat al-Mutanabbi”, “Rabie Cordoba”, “Al-Morisco”, and “The Biography of a Donkey”. The intellectual books written by this writer have also achieved wide circulation, including “A World Without Landmarks” and “The Decline of the West”.
