Order to send Imran Riaz to jail on remand in corruption case

A sessions court in Lahore has ordered YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan to be sent to jail on judicial remand in a corruption case.

Imran Riaz was arrested from his house last night.

Imran was produced by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) before Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid. According to ACE, Imran and his father are accused of getting the contract related to Dharabi Lake in Chakwal at exorbitant prices.

In the FIR registered against him, Pakistan Penal Code section 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention), 161 (receiving benefit other than legal remuneration in connection with official work) and 162 (public servant) taking bribes by corrupt or illegal means to influence) is imposed.

Section 5 (2) 47 (criminal misconduct) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 has also been invoked in this FIR.

Earlier, YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan was produced in Lahore District Court.

Imran Riaz reached his home in Sialkot on the morning of September 25 last year after being missing for almost four months.

Imran Riaz Khan is one of the supporters of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and founding chairman of PTI, Imran Khan, and after the protests over the PTI chairman’s arrest on May 9, 2023, the Disruption of Public Order (MPO) Act. He was arrested by the police on May 11.

When this detention of Imran Riaz was challenged in the court, the police told the court that Imran Riaz was released after signing an affidavit but since then he has not reached home.

The case continued in the Lahore High Court and finally on September 25, the Sialkot police brought Imran Riaz to his home.

Aftab Chaudhry, a senior producer working with Imran Riaz Khan, told Independent Urdu that ‘Imran was brought home by the Sialkot police at five in the morning and handed over to his family and asked to confirm that Imran Riaz is has been handed over to his family at his home.’

However, it was not known where Imran Riaz stayed during all this time, nor did he himself say anything about it.

However, according to family and friends, on his return he said: ‘I’m fine, it’s been a tough time. May Allah give us health and we will focus on our work again and start journalism again.’

Imran Riaz started his career as an anchor in Express News in 2012, but even after becoming an anchor, he did not get much recognition. Imran Riaz showed a clear inclination towards PTI.

Imran Riaz changed several news channels during this time. He built his reputation on television, but a few years ago he started vlogging, which skyrocketed his stardom.

He has 165.3 lakh followers on Twitter. He started his channel on YouTube in April 2020, where he has more than 4.6 million subscribers.
