The Department of Health has ordered the formation of special wards and specific medical teams in all government hospitals of the country to deal with the dengue situation. The directive was given in an emergency notification issued on Tuesday (September 16).

According to the directive signed by Moinul Ahsan, it is necessary to form separate wards and medical teams in hospitals to ensure speedy treatment of dengue patients. Emphasis is also placed on ensuring NS-1 tests, adequate drug supply and emergency services.
It has also been said that a board should be formed comprising experts from various departments including medicine, paediatrician. Under the supervision of that board, in-charge medical officers and trained doctors will treat dengue and chikungunya patients only. Suspected patients should also be examined and treated in designated rooms in the outpatient department.
A letter has also been directed to the concerned city corporation or municipality for cleanliness and decontamination of the hospital premises. In addition, the notification said that coordination meeting will be held every Saturday at 10 am under the leadership of hospital director and civil surgeon.
Public health experts believe this initiative will further streamline patient care and improve quality of care. At the same time, it will help to reduce the risk of complications and death due to dengue.
According to the information of the Department of Health, the number of dengue patients is gradually increasing in various districts including the capital during the current monsoon season. Experts have warned that the situation could deteriorate further if urgent action is not taken.
