Hungary has agreed with NATO that it will not send its forces to participate in the alliance’s operations to support Ukraine, and will not support it financially if the current Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte becomes the next secretary of the alliance. As “RIA Novosti” informs, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, announced this.
“We have reached an important agreement with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. We have agreed that no Hungarian military will participate in NATO operations in Ukraine and Hungarian financial resources will not be used to support them,” Orbán said.
The Prime Minister of Hungary added that after the meeting, Mark Rutte confirmed his support for the agreement and will remain committed to it if he takes over the post of NATO Secretary General. Orban sent a letter to Rutte with a corresponding statement.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands promised his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orbán, that if he became the Secretary General of NATO, Hungary would have the right to refuse to participate in alliance operations outside its territory in support of Ukraine.
