The Fisheries Department seized and destroyed 10,000 meters of current and thread nets in Kaptai Lake in Rangamati. Besides, 500 kg of illegally caught fish was sold at auction.
On Thursday (May 30) noon, the operation was conducted in the Kaptai lake of different areas of Gunbanganga and Jeetali under the initiative of the Sadar Upazila Fisheries Office. The operation was conducted under the leadership of District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das.
At this time upazila senior fisheries officer Sheikh Md. Ershad Bin Shahid, Sadar Upazila Fisheries Division Field Government Mithun Dewan Naval Police and BFDC officials were present.
District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das told Jago News that 10,000 meters of current and thread nets kept in Kaptai lake for illegal fishing were seized and burnt.
Meanwhile, Rangamati BFDC authorities seized a large quantity of tengra fish in Sukh Nilganj area of the city. Later it was sold at auction.
Commander Ashraf Khan, manager of BFDC, told Jago News that around 500 kg of illegally caught fish were seized and sold at auction during the fishing season in Kaptai Lake.
