‘Operation Great Freedom 5’: mega-operation in Ecuador against extortion and kidnapping

At least 26 people were captured in a new mega-operation by the Ecuadorian Police, called ‘Operation Great Freedom 5’, with the aim of combating organized crime, extortion, kidnapping and terrorism.

The institution reported, through its account in Metropolitan of Quito.

The mega operation was carried out from last Monday, April 29 to this Thursday, May 2, leaving 24 apprehended, that is, captured in the alleged commission of the crime; and two detained, in response to orders from competent authorities. This allowed at least 10 terrorist groups to be dismantled.

In addition to the people captured, four firearms, 22 cartridges, 31 mobile terminals, drugs and cash were seized in the operation.

In addition, the National Police detailed, a person who was kidnapped was released.

Previous actions

In ‘Operation Great Freedom 4’, carried out last week, the uniformed officers achieved the arrest with an arrest warrant and the arrest in flagrante delicto of 41 people.

For its part, in ‘Operation Great Freedom 3’, carried out two weeks before, there were 51 people arrested: two detained and 49 apprehended.

Likewise, in the second of these operations, carried out at the beginning of April, the Police managed to capture 56 alleged criminals: 14 detained and 42 apprehended.

Currently, in the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Santa Elena, Manabí and El Oro, a new state of exception is in force, decreed last Tuesday by the president, Daniel Noboa, due to the increase in violence and the need to carry out operations against groups. criminals within the framework of the internal armed conflict declared in January.
