Opening of the largest military exercise ever in the Baltic Sea

On June 5, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) held the opening ceremony of the US-led Baltops 2024 naval exercise at Lithuania’s Klaipeda Port.

Baltops 2024 – the largest exercise to date in the Baltic Sea – features the presence of 12,000 soldiers from 19 NATO member states, in which the Swedish military participates for the first time since the North Europe joins the North Atlantic military alliance.

The Lithuanian military said Klaipeda Port will be home to more than 30 NATO warships with more than 4,000 soldiers from the navy, navy, naval aviation and other special forces of the navy. A total of 50 warships, 25 military aircraft and 60 helicopters participated in the Baltops 2024 exercise.

The Swedish military announced that the exercises will be held in the waters around Gotland Island, the Gulf of Riga, the Gulf of Bothnia and training grounds in Sweden, Poland, Germany and Lithuania. Exercise Baltops 2024 will last until June 20.
