Open Science Seminar in Talca

The Catholic University of Maule (UCM), through its Colmena project, is organizing the seminar Ciencia en el Aire (Science in the Air), which aims to highlight the importance of Open Science and to report on the progress that this work is having on the university campus, specifically in scientific dissemination.
The INCA220007 Scientific Beehive project: Building a culture of open science and democratization of knowledge at the Catholic University of Maule, is an Open Science initiative in Higher Education, funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) and led at the UCM by Ranjeeva Ranjan.
Its general objective is to strengthen institutional capacities that allow the management and implementation of cultural change in open science and the democratization of scientific knowledge produced at the Catholic University of Maule.
The Science in the Air seminar will be led by the Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry Escudero, and the rector of the UCM, Claudio Rojas Miño.
In this regard, Ranjeeva Ranjan pointed out that Colmena is a project promoted by the Catholic University of Maule, through its research department, and that “its purpose is to advance the development of Open Science, collaborative work between researchers, its dissemination and the democratization of access to knowledge for the entire society.”
Regarding next week’s seminar, he indicated that “its objective is to highlight the work being done in the field of Open Science and the importance of advancing and deepening the work of scientific dissemination for the benefit of society as a whole and its environment.”
Program
The first activity will take place on Tuesday 13th, in the Aula Magna of the UCM, in Talca, starting at 09:30. On this occasion, there will be the presentations “Scientific dissemination: beyond the ‘general public’”, by the Doctor of Science and scientific disseminator, Rodrigo Soto Bertrán; and “Does science exist if it is not disseminated?”, by the journalist and scientific disseminator, Andrea Obaid Carrión.
In the afternoon, the event will continue with an activity at the San Miguel campus of this university, where three presentations will be held. The first, “Digital Health. An Alternative for Mental Health. MentalMaule”, by Pablo Méndez Bustos, academic and researcher at the Catholic University of Maule; then “Neuroeducation and applied socio-affective epistemology in Chile”, by Belén Valdés Villalobos, PhD candidate in Education at the Catholic University of Maule; and finally, “Spiritual dimension of humanized nursing care in a hospital in Chile”, by Daniela Espinoza Padilla, Candidate for a Master’s degree in Nursing, with a mention in Care Management at the Catholic University of Maule.
The Science in the Air seminar will continue the following day in Curicó, at the UCM extension center, where two talks will be presented: “Science goes out to the streets”, by the journalist and Communications Manager of the Explora project, Claudio Pereira Valdebenito, and “From Research to Action in Health and Environment: A Community Dialogue”, by the scientist María Elisa Quintero Cáceres.
