It represents an elegant and aerodynamic sedan that wants to compete for customers with, for example, the Tesla Model S or the Porsche Taycan. And it’s a decent car, the Xiaomi SU7 is 4,997mm long, 1,963mm wide and 1,455mm tall. The wheelbase is three metres. The appearance was attended by the well-known designer Chris Bangle, who became famous for his bold-looking BMW models.
The aerodynamics are remarkable, Xiaomi boasts a record low drag coefficient of 0.195.
The technical basis is the Modena EV platform, which includes a traction battery developed by Xiaomi itself. The company says it can have a capacity of up to 150 kWh, which would provide a range of more than 1,200 kilometers.
However, the SU7 doesn’t have that big of a battery yet. Xiaomi has introduced three engines: HyperEngine V6, HyperEngine V6s and HyperEngine V8s. The epithets are intended to evoke the ability to compete with the performance of traditional V6 and V8 combustion engines.
The basic V6 version is powered by an electric motor, which sends up to 220 kW (299 hp) and 400 Nm to the rear wheels. This variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds and, thanks to the 73.6 kWh battery, would be able to travel up to 668 kilometers on a single charge (according to the Chinese test cycle). The V6 version then offers 275 kW (374 hp) and 500 Nm.

The top-of-the-range SU7 V8 model relies on two electric motors that deliver a combined maximum power of 495 kW (673 hp) and 635 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 265 km. /H. The battery with a capacity of 101 kWh ensures a range of up to 800 km (again according to the Chinese test cycle) and the 800 volt architecture helps to be able to recharge the energy at 220 km in 5 minutes and at 390 km in 10 minutes with a suitable charger.
In the interior, of course, the car benefits from Xiaomi’s experience with mobile phones and smart electronics. The basic control element is a 16.1-inch touchscreen, on which the Xiaomi HyperOS operating system runs. The company also boasts assisted driving equipment, including LiDAR, cameras and radar.

Sales are expected to start early in the new year, first in the Chinese domestic market. Xiaomi has not yet revealed the price, but the head of the company, Lej Tün, indicated that it will not be a cheap car, which, given the parameters, is not surprising.
It is not yet clear whether SU7 will also look to Europe. In any case, Xiaomi takes its adventure in the automotive sector very seriously. In the next 15-20 years he wants to become one of the five largest car manufacturers in the world.
