Moldova can become a part of the European Union (EU) sooner than the planned 2030, for which it is necessary to hold a referendum.
Publika.az informs that this was said by the speaker of the parliament, Igor Grossu, on the air.
Moldovan President Maya Sandu announced on December 24 that she intends to run for the presidency for the second time. In addition, he spoke in the parliament with the initiative of organizing a referendum so that the citizens could express their views on the accession of the republic to the European Union. The referendum can be held on the same day as the presidential elections. At the same time, Moldovan authorities have repeatedly stated that they aim to join the European Union by 2030.
“It is very important to hold the referendum this year and start the negotiation process at full speed. I believe that we have the opportunity and obligation to do everything possible to bring the moment of accession to the EU even closer (before 2030 -). I feel the same spirit and approach in my Ukrainian colleagues,” Grossu said on the Rlive TV channel.
