One dead, one injured in sword attack in San Dimas

A woman was stabbed to death in San Dimas on Thursday when someone attacked her with a sword, according to authorities.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue, between Arrow Highway and Cienega Avenue.

A cellphone video obtained by Eyewitness News shows a woman carrying what appears to be a samurai sword in front of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies stopping her in the middle of the street.

“I heard the sirens and then I heard the police saying ‘get down, get down!’” said San Dimas resident Trinh Garcia.

Garcia was at home when the incident occurred. At the time, he did not know that the woman was carrying a sword or that another woman in the same house had been killed.

“We are shocked, we are stunned,” Garcia said.

“Upon arrival, officers found a female with numerous cuts and lacerations on her body. That female directed them to a residence down the street, where officers found another female also suffering from lacerations who was later pronounced dead at the scene,” said LASD Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.

Officers later found another woman while searching the home, who was unharmed but also taken to the hospital due to a medical emergency, Vizcarra said.

It was not immediately known whether the woman caught on video walking with the sword was a victim or a suspect. Additional video showed her walking to the front door of a home a few doors away with blood running down one arm and carrying the sword in the other.

“I didn’t know what was going on and I didn’t recognize the lady. Thank God we weren’t home. She just said hello, hello. Maybe she was just crying for help, but at the same time I was wondering why she had a sword,” said Ed Consencino, a resident of the area.

Neighbors said the people involved in this incident lived in the same house, however, what happened inside that home on Thursday remains unclear.

“They were quiet people, they only went out to get the mail, open the garage, take out the trash, other than that, they were quiet people,” Garcia said.

No arrests have been made and no further details were immediately available.
