One body recovered, 5 missing with police-Ansar –

A trawler with 39 passengers sank in the Meghna river at Hatiya in Noakhali in bad weather. One body has been recovered. Besides, five people including police and Ansar members are still missing.

The trawler met with an accident on its way to Karimbazar from Bhasanchar on Saturday (May 31) around 3:30 pm. The remaining 33 passengers of the trawler were rescued safely. One of them is in critical condition.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Noakhali. Ibrahim confirmed this to Jago News.

He said that after leaving Bhasanchar in the afternoon, one kilometer away from Karim Bazar, the trawler fell under the influence of a storm and sank in the Meghna river. There were 39 passengers including sick Rohingya, three policemen of Bhasanchar police station, Ansar and NGO representatives.

Md. Ibrahim also said that 33 passengers in the trawler were rescued alive and one body was recovered. Five people, including a policeman named Naik Saiful and an Ansar battalion member named Hannan, are still missing. Police and Coast Guard members are trying to rescue them.
