On Wednesday, 300 tons of salt were spread on the municipal roads of Arlon

The winter weather of the last three days has complicated traffic conditions for motorists in the villages and streets of central Arlon.

Icy conditions on Wednesday made the roads almost impassable with light, steady rain and sub-zero temperatures. In some villages the salting took a long time to arrive. Even in the city, despite the mobilization of the teams of the Department of Works and the farmers mobilized in the villages based on an agreement that binds them to the City.

Unfortunately, the situation became even more complex late Thursday morning, when the salt reserve was completely emptied, immobilizing the spreading service while the snowfall was heavy.

“We knew a cold wave was coming and we anticipated itspecifies Kamal Mitri, Arlon’s Mobility Councilor. But it is when we find ourselves at the center of the action that we realize the quantities that will be necessary to cover the needs. Freezing rain complicated the equation. We have been generous with the salt spread on the roads to make them as passable as possible. On Wednesday we used 300 tons of salt.”

To make up for the lack of salt, the councilor immediately appealed to the central office to get a supply. But not only. “I also contacted the mayors of neighboring municipalities, but they were in the same situation . We still managed to find two truckschase Kamal Mitri. Fortunately, the plant was able to supply us quickly too and the spreading work was able to resume from late Thursday afternoon until the evening. About ten trucks and tractors worked to salt all the municipal roads of the city and all the villages. This Friday, starting at 4am, the trucks resumed their full rotation to ensure the roads are operational by 7am.”

If temperatures are milder on Sunday, the City is ready for the next winter offensive as there is still salt in the supplies.
