On the day of restoration of independence, a military parade will be held in Rezekne

This year, after a 12-year break, the parade will return to Rēzekne, which can be watched in person and broadcast live by Latvijas Televīzija.

Units of the National Armed Forces and subordinate institutions of the Ministry of the Interior will gather for the Latvian Freedom Day events in Rēzekne. On this day, the residents and guests of the city will have the opportunity to watch a parade of soldiers and military equipment, as well as demonstrations of various units, informational stands of units and an exhibition of equipment, a concert, sports activities, as well as to visit a market of homemakers.

The festive program will start at 9 am with a service in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rezekne.

From 11 a.m., a military parade will take place at the Latgale Liberation Monument “United Latvijai”, and from 12 p.m., demonstrations of the State Border Guard’s canines with service dogs will take place at the stadium of the 2nd secondary school in Rēzekne.

In the course of the day, various festive events will take place in the Festival Park, in the parking lot near the Rēzekne Culture House and in the soccer field of the Rēzekne Olympic Center.

The concert of the National Guard orchestra and the orchestra of the United States Air Force in Europe will begin at the Embassy of Latgale “Gors” at 3 p.m. Free entrance cards to the information center of the Latgale embassy.

Traditionally, on May 4, the National Armed Forces hold a military parade in one of the historical districts of Latvia, the municipality informs. Last year, the parade was held in Vidzeme, Alūksne, but this year Rēzekne is hosting this Latvian national holiday event. The event is organized in cooperation with the municipality of Rēzekne.

In order to introduce the National Armed Forces to those residents who do not have the opportunity to attend the traditional national holiday parade on November 18 in Riga, in 2012 the defense industry started a new tradition – on May 4, the day of the restoration of the country’s independence, to organize the National Armed Forces Day in one of the regions of Latvia . The first such day took place in 2012 in Rēzekne. Since 2013, it has been held under the motto “May 4 – Freedom Festival”.
