British actress Olivia Hussey, who played Juliet in the 1968 film ‘Romeo and Juliet’, a role that earned her a Golden Globe, died at her home this Friday at the age of 73, according to her family.
“Olivia was an extraordinary person whose warmth, wisdom and pure kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her,” her family said in a statement posted online. “He lived a life full of passion, love and dedication to the arts, spirituality and kindness towards animals,” he adds.
Hussey, born in Buenos Aires, was just 15 years old when she starred in director Franco Zeffirelli’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy. The young actress, who received a Golden Globe for “New Star of the Year” for her performance, later starred in, among other projects, the 1974 horror film ‘Bloody Christmas’ and the 1978 adaptation of Agatha Christie’s play ‘Death on the Nile’.
