Okasha nominated for Best Actress Award

Moroccan actress Sonia Akacha has been nominated for the Best Actress Award in Africa for her role in the film “Divorced Women of Casablanca” by Moroccan director Mohamed Ahed Bensouda, which was shown in Moroccan cinemas at the beginning of this year.

The Sotigui Academy announced, via its official website, that, within the framework of the seventh session of its activities and in cooperation with the FESPACO Festival in Burkina Faso, actress Sonia Akacha was nominated to win the continental award, along with a group of artists from various African countries, noting that the award ceremony will be held next November.

Last March, Akasha won the Best Actress Award at the 11th Muscat International Film Festival for her role in the same feature film.

The feature film “Divorced Women of Casablanca” sheds light on a group of women in Moroccan society who have experienced divorce. It deals with the suffering of five women from different backgrounds, and presents the problems they encounter in society and the family, in addition to the difficulties they face after separating from their life partner, the problem of child custody, some legal lapses in the Family Code, and other topics from the heart of Moroccan society.

In addition to Sonia Akacha, the film features the participation of a group of Moroccan stars, including Zainab Abid, Mounia Lamkimel, Bouchra Ahrich, Nadia Al-Alami, Mohamed Choubi, Nabil Atef, Abdel Latif Shawqi, Younes Lahri, Amin Benjelloun, Jamila El Maslouhi and other names, in addition to the singer Saida Charaf in her first experience in the world of acting.

The film “Divorced Women of Casablanca” by Moroccan director Mohamed Ahed Bensouda managed to win important awards during its international tour in major festivals, the number of which reached more than 25 awards; it was crowned with the Best Director and Best Actor Award at the International Arts Festival in the Greek city of Athens, and it also won the Best African Film Award in the International Competition of the Independent Film Festival in Barcelona, ​​Spain, in addition to being selected to participate in the official competition of the Calcutta International Film Festival in its 74th session, which is one of the oldest film events in the world.
