The Upper Austrian governor and his deputy are rightly opposed to hasty decisions and are emphasizing the protection of property.

Vienna (OTS) – For ÖHGB President RA Dr. Martin Prunbauer, the news published from Upper Austria that no taxes will be collected on vacant properties shows a pragmatic approach to the comprehensive consequences of such a measure: “Upper Austria is sending a clear signal that property rights are respected and that well-founded considerations must take precedence over hasty decisions.”

As the ÖHGB has repeatedly criticized, Governor Stelzer has now confirmed that the effects of a vacancy tax cannot currently be answered seriously due to a lack of concrete data. Some other federal states have already had numerous negative experiences in connection with the taxation of vacant properties. These range from the enormous administrative effort involved in collecting the data to the fact that there is a considerable lack of reliable data material. “Apart from the enormous bureaucratic and financial effort, it is still not clear how vacancy can be recorded. There is not even a generally accepted definition of what is meant by vacancy,” emphasises Prunbauer.
