13 additional MR devices in 7 federal states
Vienna. (OTS) – Long waiting times for MR and CT examinations are a burden for patients and represent a challenge for the entire healthcare system. The social insurance is aware of this problem and has presented an action plan in today’s Federal Target Control Commission that is intended to help significantly shorten waiting times for MR and CT examinations and improve the reliability of care for patients.
Specifically, the social insurance company is proposing the inclusion of 13 additional MRI devices in the so-called large-scale equipment plan as an immediate measure. The large-scale equipment plan regulates the number of MR and CT devices that are made available for the public health system. The large-scale equipment plan is an important component of the Austrian Health Structure Plan (ÖSG), which is a binding planning instrument in the health system. The additional capacities will be made available in almost all federal states both in the outpatient sector (5 devices) and in cooperation with the hospital sector (8 devices). Cooperation agreements are also being negotiated with the states in order to be able to make better use of existing hospital equipment.
In addition, the social insurance is working on the further development of a concept for waiting time monitoring, which includes all devices (including those of partner hospitals) and is intended to serve as a guide for patients and thus further shorten waiting times. The social insurance website already offers an initial indication of this, where the waiting times of the established institutes can be seen at a glance. More information at:
ÖGK employee representative Andreas Huss: “We want to offer our insured persons an overall improvement in service for MR and CT examinations with easier appointment booking and shorter waiting times, especially for urgent examinations, supplemented by a modern, qualitative allocation system for the right treatment path to the best treatment.”
In addition, over the summer the social insurance system will work with the federal states to develop a target image for better MR and CT care throughout Austria, so that efficient utilization of existing devices can also be ensured.
All of these measures are intended to improve the care situation for patients. The immediate action proposal was submitted by the social insurance company on Friday for a decision in the Federal Target Control Commission and was accepted.
