“From the Municipality, together with all the artists who accompany us today, we are convinced that Valentín Trujillo deserves to receive the National Music Award. Not only because he is a very prominent neighbor of our commune, but also because maestro Valentín has shared his knowledge about popular music through the piano, a genre that has been somewhat elusive with this award, but which brings well-being, joy, identity and culture to the majority of Chileans. It is essential that this recognition can be made during his lifetime, that is why we do not want this opportunity to pass in 2024” highlighted Emilia Ríos, Mayor of Ñuñoa.

Actress and singer Gloria Benavides commented, “Maestro Valentín is someone who fully deserves the award. He has dedicated his life to music, being a great orchestra conductor, and a great companion to children by participating in programs such as Pin Pon. His career is very successful throughout Latin America, which is why the award this year should be his.”

The milestone also had a greeting from the communicator Mario Kreutzberger “Don Francisco”, who sent a message from abroad highlighting “I thank the Municipality of Ñuñoa and I thank the great contribution of maestro Valentín Trujillo for so many years to Chilean popular music. He has been and will continue to be a contribution to the new generations. He deserves the National Music Award.”

Valentin Trujillo, also known as “Uncle Valentin”, has an important career in the music field, with more than 80 years of experience, dedicating his life to the diffusion of national music, the creation, composition, arrangement of musical pieces and orchestral direction. He is recognized as a distinguished figure in the Chilean music scene, in which he has collaborated with a large number of artists, including Cecilia, Vicente Bianchi, Ángel Parra Trío, Andrea Tessa, Cristian Cuturrufo, among others.

The letter states that “His career is also distinguished by his deep social commitment. His active participation in community projects reflects the conviction that art, and especially music, has the power to inspire, unite and transform. This meant, among other distinctions, his appointment as an Illustrious Resident of Ñuñoa in 2005 and the christening of a section of Plaza Ñuñoa as “Plaza de las Artes Valentín Trujillo” in 2016, as a sign of the gratitude and admiration of the community that has had the privilege of hosting him for more than 30 years.”
