Sixteen artists from Chile and Argentina bring to the stage the victims of inherited violence: daughters and sons of genocidaires who were born inserted, from and through their parents, in a life marked by guilt. Also investigating the links of Nazism in the extermination practices committed by the apparatuses of the dictatorships of Chile and Argentina, the multicultural and multidisciplinary production NOT IN MY NAME by Alternance Théâtre, in co-production with IBERESCENA, M100 and Parque Cultural de Valparaíso.
Written by Leyla Selman and Roberto Baeza, the production is directed by Claudia Saldivia, in addition to the performances of María Paz Grandjean, Eduardo Herrera, María Olga Matte, Luciano Mansur, Liliana Morán, Pablo Poulain, Marcela Sepúlveda, Julio Silva, Lorena Soto, Claudia Vergara, Félix Villar and in music Ema Pinto, Felipe Ríos, Paulo Rojas, Maggi Rust and Vivian Carvajal.
Repressors under the military dictatorships of Augusto Pinochet in Chile and Jorge Videla in Argentina, these men lived normal lives with their families until the horrors came out of the darkness to become public and demand justice. Faced with the silence of the parents and disobeying religious, moral, social and legal principles, the daughters and sons decided to investigate. Upon confirming the veracity of their parents’ horrors, they decided to denounce them, destroying the bond of filiation forever.
“Creating and being able to present this work in Chile is based not only on an artistic will, but also on history. 35 years after the return of democracy in Chile and 41 years in Argentina, we cannot let the ashes of a shameful past cool, whose denialist slogans re-emerge strongly today,” explains its director.
Due to the pandemic, the project had to be postponed and modified considering a previous audiovisual stage, where a documentary was created with artists from Chile, Argentina, Switzerland and Spain, which premiered on March 5, 2022, in Switzerland. And the in-person season, which will remain on display until next July 14.
The documentary “Not In My Name – Disobedient Stories” will also be shown in the Matucana 100 Film Series from July 3 to 14 at 6 p.m. The theatrical performances and the documentary screening will include mediation sessions on postmemory in collaboration with psychologist Hilda Baeza.

REVIEW
The work is structured based on the figure of the father. Different testimonies and voices question the paternal and patriarchal figure. On the one hand, there are the testimonies of the characters who represent the real cases of Analía Kalinec, Patricia Pienovi and Erika Lederer who narrate their personal and intimate relationships with their parents. On the other hand, a “chorus” made up of actors and actresses who introduce and reflect on the stories that are told. This chorus operates as a hinge between one testimony and the next, giving unity to the narrative.
