The TikTok application may be blocked in the United States, if its control does not leave Chinese hands in the next nine months. This is an extremely complex legal and commercial challenge, after President Joe Biden last week signed the law that requires it to be transferred to friendly hands. One of the controlling owners of the application is the American Jew Jeffrey Yass, who recently became one of Donald Trump’s financial supporters. Yass holds extreme right-wing positions, which is why until recently he supported every candidate more extreme than Trump who tried to challenge him. Trump did change direction from opposing TikTok to supporting it, arguing that blocking it would strengthen Facebook, which is a bigger problem for free speech in the United States.
The app is facing the biggest challenge in its history: if there are no changes, it could find itself completely banned from use in the US. This is after President Biden signed the law designed to block the Chinese-owned video app from operating in America. The use of the popular app has already been banned in several countries, the largest of which is India.
Tik Tok is expected to legally fight the law, alleging a violation of freedom of expression. The American lawmakers claim that the Chinese control of the Bytedance company, the operator of the application, allows a foreign country to have an extraordinary influence on the consciousness of the American public, especially the young. Today, TikTok has about 170 million users in the United States, about half of the country’s total population. More than 100 million of them, according to estimates, are active at least once a month on the application.

Former TikTok employee Barak Hershkowitz resigned from the company on the grounds that it was spreading disinformation with a pro-Palestinian bias, and even in favor of Hamas and Iran.
Hershkowitz claimed that even the company’s employees responsible for filtering inappropriate content support Iran’s emissaries. The company denied the claims.
1/4. It’s been almost 3 months since senator @LindseyGrahamSC grilled the CEO of #TikTok for my resignation in a senate hearing. The same senate votes today on the TikTok bill. What a crazy ride. 3 angled that I would like to highlight > pic.twitter.com/BH2PEXXTCF

Many criticize TikTok for causing eating disorders, self-image problems, sleep disorders and addiction. This criticism is also directed at other social networks, but in the opinion of Tomer Simon, the chief scientist of Microsoft, Tiktok’s algorithm is more “captivating”, and thus succeeds in causing deeper effects on users, especially the youngest.
Warning thread against Tiktok – if not for you then at least for your children.
Lately I see more and more people and organizations moving to use Tiktok for one reason or another. I will not write about the advantages of TikTok, and it has already been written that they have the best algorithm in the world.
Hope after reading you will change your mind. Starting -> pic.twitter.com/XCPokH6UZP— Tomer Simon, PhD (@TomerSimon) August 21, 2022
The law states that the president has the option to extend the sales period required from Tiktok before the blocking from nine months to a year, not including delays that may apply if Tiktok initiates legal proceedings on the matter. This time frame will allow TikTok to have a considerable impact on the American mind in the upcoming presidential elections in November.
